We study an efficient method for designing shaping bits in a polar-coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system with peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction. To effectively reduce PAPR of polar-coded OFDM through shaping bits, their bit indices should be carefully selected, considering their impact on the resulting OFDM signals. The conventional approach finds their positions by Monte Carlo simulations, which requires considerable computational cost especially when the code length of the polar code increases. Therefore, we introduce a low-complexity design method based on the Hamming weight associated with the generator matrix of polar codes. Focusing on the correlation of the generated OFDM symbols through shaping bits, we develop a systematic design method that does not rely on exhaustive search based on simulations. Computer simulations demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve PAPR reduction performance comparable to the conventional method with negligible design complexity. |
