This paper demonstrates that inherent bias errors arise when monopulse angle estimation is independently performed in the azimuth and elevation directions for off-boresight target signal.
Furthermore, we derive an approximate expression for this bias error. To eliminate this error, we propose an accurate bias correction method that leverages the capabilities of an element-level digital beamforming (DBF) radar. Specifically, the proposed method accurately compensates for the bias error by introducing a novel delta-delta beam in addition to the conventional sum, azimuth difference, and elevation difference beams. |
