Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The application of micro and nano-spacecraft, such as CubeSats, to deep space exploration has been attracting significant attention. In particular, their use as independent units that separate from a mothership to specialize in specific functions is increasing. However, a simple navigation system capable of providing accurate relative positioning under strict size, weight, and power constraints has not yet been established. Optical navigation meant for short distances, radio navigation requiring massive ground stations, and existing sensors reliant on GNSS are inapplicable to ultra-low-resource missions in deep space. In this study, we introduce a regenerative ranging method—which regenerates and remodulates received codes before transmission—into a Software Defined Radio (SDR) to resolve the challenges of long-distance ranging between ultra-low-resource spacecraft.
