Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This study proposes the application of a wireless autoencoder (WAE) to communication systems employing Polar codes. Since the fixed frozen bits of Polar codes are designed under the assumption of a binary erasure channel, they are not necessarily optimal for quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) or modulation using neural network (NN). In addition, because the decoding process of Polar codes includes nonlinear operations, the noise behavior deviates from a Gaussian distribution, and therefore equally spaced signal point constellations are not necessarily optimal. These issues make it difficult to derive analytically optimal designs. Furthermore, since the frozen-bit positions affect the occurrence probability of modulation symbols, this effect should also be taken into account. Therefore, in this study, we perform data-driven optimization using a WAE that incorporates an NN-based frozen bit selector and an NN-based modulator for signal constellation design. Through computer simulations, we verify its effectiveness and discuss the influence of the learned frozen bit positions on the symbol occurrence probability.
