(in English) Mode Division Multiplexing (MDM) technology, which exploits the spatial degrees of freedom of light propagation, has been actively investigated in the field of high-capacity optical fiber transmission, and is also expected to enable high-capacity Free-Space Optical communication (FSO). However, in FSO, the maximum number of multiplexed modes has been constrained by beam divergence due to diffraction in free space. In this presentation, we propose a Geometric Mode Division Multiplexing (GMDM) scheme that applies synthetic aperture techniques from the sensing field, with the aim of increasing the number of multiplexed modes under diffraction—that is, achieving super-resolution—and we report the results of a proof-of-concept experiment.
