Orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) modulation has attracted attention as an effective modulation scheme against doubly-selective fading arising in high-mobility communications. In channel estimation (CE) for OTFS, the fractional Doppler spreads the energy of each path over the delay-Doppler (DD) domain, making accurate estimation challenging. As high-accuracy CE methods, sparse Bayesian learning (SBL)-based and coordinate descent (CD)-based methods that exploit channel sparsity in the DD domain have been proposed; however, they suffer from high computational complexity due to iterative matrix inversion. To address this issue, this paper proposes a low-complexity CE method that divides the received signal on a per-delay-tap basis and successively estimates the fractional Doppler of each path via a bisection search without iterative matrix inversion.
Computer simulations demonstrate that the proposed method significantly reduces the computational complexity while achieving channel estimation accuracy and bit error rate performance comparable to or better than those of the conventional methods. |
