Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this paper, we consider a highly reliable and low-latency bidirectional relay transmission system that uses a high altitude platform station (HAPS) as a relay station, which is capable of achieving low latency without passing through a core network, to enable remote control of surgical robots and other devices. To achieve this, we propose a relay transmission method that combines network coding for forward error-correction coded bits (CNC) with non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA). Unlike conventional network coding (NC), which encodes individual information bits, CNC first encodes the information bits destined for each pair of terminals independently using FEC at arbitrary coding rates, and then generates the NC bits based on an exclusive OR (ExOR) operation. CNC enables transmission rate control that adapts to differences in propagation channels between terminals. On the other hand, since CNC bits cannot be FEC-decoded by the other pair of terminals, the proposed NOMA scheme for transmitting signals between different pairs applies conventional NC to pairs with poor propagation conditions, thereby enabling high-efficiency transmission through the use of a successive interference canceller (SIC). Furthermore, we present an optimal resource-control method to minimize the required bandwidth. We compare the proposed method with conventional methods through computer simulations to quantitatively demonstrate its effectiveness.
