Investigation of Joint Optimization of Reverse Use of TDD Frame and User Association in Co-existing Networks with HAPS and Terrestrial BSs

(in English) In co-existing networks with high altitude platform stations (HAPS) and terrestrial base stations (TBSs), the reverse use of the time-division duplexing (TDD) frame has been reported as a method for mitigating inter-network interference. In this frame structure, the uplink and downlink transmissions in the same time slot are configured oppositely between HAPS and TBS. In addition, an adaptive control method for the time slot allocation ratio between downlink and uplink transmissions has been reported to maximize the system throughput, which is defined as the generalized mean of user throughput. However, the user association method used in this approach does not consider the impact on other users and therefore does not necessarily maximize the system throughput. Therefore, this paper investigates the joint optimization of the reverse use of TDD frame and user association. The proposed method realizes this joint optimization by alternately performing a user association method based on autonomous decentralized control and an adaptive control method for the time slot allocation ratio. Through computer simulations, we quantitatively evaluate the improvement in system throughput achieved by the proposed method and demonstrate its effectiveness.
