Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The rapid growth of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) systems has led to increased energy consumption across the sensing, communication, edge, and cloud layers, raising critical sustainability concerns. This paper presents a systematic and reproducible evaluation of energy-efficient practices in IIoT, focusing on four dominant strategies: energy-aware routing, adaptive power management, edge computing, and AI-driven optimization. A structured review of 50 peer-reviewed studies published primarily between 2018 and 2025 was conducted using a mixed-methods approach that combines semi-quantitative performance scoring with automated keyword-based analysis and AI semantic-based evaluation. A custom Python-based evaluation tool was developed to support reproducibility and extensibility across different themes and application domains. Lightweight semantic relevance analysis and keyword co-occurrence validation further strengthened the assessment. Results indicate that edge computing exhibits the greatest energy-saving potential, whereas AI-driven approaches primarily enhance system adaptability. The findings highlight that a single energy-efficient practice is insufficient to minimize energy consumption, and the results further indicate the need for hybrid green IIoT architectures (a combination of multiple energy-efficient practices) that balance energy efficiency with industrial performance requirements. The study provides actionable insights for designing sustainable and adaptive IIoT systems.
