Preliminary Study on Generative Video Transmission Based on Semantic Information

(in English) Transmitting images and videos with a low transmission cost has the potential to expand the application scope of narrow-band communication technologies such as Low Power Wide Area (LWPA). In addition, reducing the communication costs associated with the image and video transmission increases the number of accommodating devices within a network, thereby contributing to the construction of large-scale Internet of Things (IoT) environments. As a novel approach to reducing transmission costs in the image transmission, the authors have proposed a generative image transmission method based on semantic information contained within images. In this method, the sender extracts multiple types of semantic information from an original image using machine learning models and transmits only the extracted information, thereby significantly reducing the amount of the transmitted data compared to general image compression algorithms. Subsequently, the receiver inputs the received semantic information into an image generative model to reconstruct an image with the same semantic information, thereby achieving end-to-end image transmission with a low transmission cost. However, our previous studies have focused exclusively on the image transmission, and its application to video transmission has not yet been investigated. Therefore, this paper proposes a generative video transmission method based on semantic information, which extends the generative image transmission method.
