FPGA-Based Evaluation of Parallel Pilot-Aggregated MIMO Adaptive Equalization for Fast Polarization Tracking

(in English) We present numerical simulations and circuit synthesis evaluations of a parallel pilot-aggregated MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) adaptive equalizer suitable for real-time implementation. In this method, pilot symbols are inserted at intervals corresponding to the degree of parallelization and aggregated into one of the parallel channels in the receiver-side digital signal processing (DSP). In the aggregated pilot channel, the MIMO equalizer taps are updated in the training mode every DSP clock cycle, and the updated taps are transferred and applied to the other parallel channels carrying payload symbols. Numerical simulation results show that the proposed method significantly improves polarization tracking performance compared with a conventional pilot-based method. Furthermore, FPGA-based circuit synthesis demonstrates that the proposed method achieves a significant reduction in hardware resource usage compared with the conventional method while achieving a low latency of less than 6 ns.
