Tracklet-Level Player Identification in Single-View Volleyball Match Videos

(in English) Recent years have seen an increasing importance of data utilization in sports competitions, and Data Volley, a software system for collecting and analyzing volleyball match data, is now widely used.
Consequently, automation of Data Volley recording is strongly desired. Such automation requires several fundamental technologies, including player tracking and action recognition.
As one of these core technologies, this study proposes a tracklet-based player identification method for volleyball match videos captured from a single viewpoint.
In this method, player tracklets are first obtained from the results of player tracking, and feature representations are extracted for each tracklet using a deep learning model provided by OpenGait. Based on these features, player classification is performed both within the same set and across different sets within a team.
Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves highly accurate player identification in real match environments.
