Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this study, we propose a hemispherical acoustic ear authentication device that physically mitigates variations in measurement distance for personal authentication based on the acoustic characteristics of the auricle. Using 20 different auricle models, data were acquired at a total of 121 locations, each displaced by up to 5 mm in any direction from the reference position. To construct the authentication model, we introduce a novel complex-input convolutional neural network (2D-CNN) that treats the real and imaginary parts of the complex spectrogram as independent input channels. This architecture enables effective learning of both amplitude and phase information, thereby constructing a feature space robust against sound-pressure fluctuations caused by positional deviations. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves extremely high personal authentication performance, attaining an Equivalent Error Rate (EER) of 0.56% even under positional misalignment conditions. These results verify the effectiveness of both the proposed device and the proposed model.
