The effects of difference in material on tactile pattern recognition

(in English) Clothing selection is challenging for visually impaired individuals. This study focuses on tactile pattern perception, comparing three presentation media derived from clothing pattern images: 3Dmodels, Easy Tactix, and capsule paper. An identification experiment using six patterns was conducted with 15 sighted participants. Results showed that while the type of pattern significantly affected identification difficulty, the impact of different presentation media was limited, Subjective evaluations suggested that 3D models are effective for grasping structural features, whereas Easy Tactix and capsule paper are suitable for conveying texture and clothing imagery.
