In recent years, electrical stimulation of peripheral nerves has attracted increasing attention in neuroscience and is expected to contribute to applications such as the early diagnosis of diabetes. In this study, intraepidermal electrical stimulation (IES) was investigated as a method for stimulating peripheral nerves. Previous studies have examined the response characteristics of nerves based on IES experiments; however, conventional models showed discrepancies between experimental and simulated results. In addition, because these models included complex responses involving synaptic transmission, it was difficult to accurately evaluate the response characteristics of individual nerve fibers. To address these issues, the response characteristics of axon fascicles were evaluated using a model of human iPSC-derived sensory neurons under conditions excluding synaptic effects. Furthermore, a model incorporating axon diameter distributions was developed to reproduce more physiologically realistic nerve properties. Finally, the accuracy of the analysis was improved through optimization of synaptic model parameters. |
