In this study, we identify the dynamics of temporal networks using recurrence plots, recurrence quantification analysis, and principal component analysis. Specifically, we first divide temporal evolution of the temporal network into time windows and generate a distance matrix by calculating the distances between networks within each time window. We then generate recurrence plots from the distance matrix while varying the recurrence rate. Next, we calculate a vector using the determinism and complexity indices for all recurrence rates. Finally, we identify the dynamics of the temporal network by applying the principal component analysis to the multidimensional vectors. The results of numerical experiments showed that the temporal networks of a French high school and a hospital exhibit different behavior from that of periodic and random time series, and instead exhibit similar behavior to chaotic time series and periodic time series with internal noise. |
