In this study, we consider a wireless communication system using a quantum cascade laser (QCL), which is expected to be applied to terahertz-band wireless communications, and optimize the input current of the QCL to improve the channel capacity.
In 6G systems, ultrahigh-speed wireless communications on the order of 1 Tbit/s using the terahertz band are expected to be realized.
Specifically, under a constant power consumption constraint, the bias current, modulation current, and symbol period are designed via exhaustive search based on computer simulations.
In QCL-based wireless communications, system performance is degraded by noise and inter-symbol interference (ISI).
Therefore, by taking these effects into account and optimizing the input current, which corresponds to the transmitted signal, the channel capacity can be improved.
This study demonstrates that appropriate design of the input current parameters—bias current, modulation current, and symbol period—leads to an improvement in channel capacity.
In addition, we also show how the channel capacity varies with power consumption and available bandwidth. |
