Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Whale call detection plays a crucial role in monitoring marine ecosystems and biodiversity.
While hydrophone-based passive acoustic monitoring has been extensively studied, whale call detection using distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) remains underexplored due to the scarcity of publicly available labeled datasets.
This limitation poses a significant challenge for developing data-driven models tailored to DAS signals.
In this paper, we propose a training-less knowledge transfer framework that enables whale call detection in DAS data by leveraging models trained on hydrophone recordings.
The proposed method addresses the domain gap between hydrophone and DAS observations without requiring any retraining or labeled DAS data.
By compensating for discrepancies in signal characteristics, the framework allows direct application of hydrophone-trained detectors to DAS measurements.
Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method significantly improves detection performance, achieving an F-score gain of 42.74 percentage points compared to a baseline approach that directly applies a hydrophone-trained model to DAS data.
These findings highlight the effectiveness of training-less domain adaptation for cross-sensor acoustic analysis and support the practical use of DAS for large-scale marine monitoring.
