This presentation introduces a collaborative mobile terminal transmission and reception scheme that effectively increases the number of antennas by sharing received signals and other information among mobile terminals. Conventionally, multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) transmission has been extensively studied as a means of overcoming the limited number of antennas available at mobile terminals. However, in mobile environments, the accuracy of precoding is degraded by channel variations, resulting in performance degradation. In contrast, collaborative terminal systems, in which multiple mobile terminals collaborate to effectively increase the number of antennas, do not require precoding and are therefore well suited to mobile environments. Furthermore, since inter-terminal communication is a key component of such systems, high data rates and low latency are essential, making high-frequency bands a promising solution. By utilizing high-frequency bands for inter-terminal communication, the effective MIMO multiplexing order in conventional spectrum ("platinum band") can be substantially increased. This presentation highlights recent research on collaborative terminal systems, with a particular focus on the results of outdoor 12 × 12 MIMO transmission experiments. |
