Evaluation of Rationale Extraction from Chat Logs Using Large Language Models

(in English) In agile software development, discussions regarding development take place in various meetings and chat sessions, and the content of these discussions serves as the rationale for changes to artifacts. Consequently, there is a problem where this rationale becomes scattered, making it difficult to reference. Therefore, this study develops a method that uses a large language model (LLM) to extract the rationale for changes to artifacts from chat conversations. In this study, we generated simulated development data using an LLM and evaluated the validity of the rationale extracted by our proposed method by applying it to the generated conversations and logs of artifact updates. The results showed a precision of 0.556, a recall of 0.753, and an F1 score of 0.639. Although the method did not achieve full automation of rationale extraction, it was found to be reasonably effective for use as a source of candidate rationales to assist in manual selection.
