The integration of 5G terrestrial networks (TNs) and non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) is essential for extending reliable connectivity beyond conventional terrestrial coverage. In this context, Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellations can support end-to-end (E2E) data transmission from user terminals to terrestrial data networks and 5G core networks, enabling services in remote, underserved, and mission-critical scenarios. However, resilient connectivity and service continuity in LEO-based 5G NTN systems remain challenging. The high mobility of LEO satellites causes frequent topology changes as well as link blockage or failures, making communication paths and link-state information quickly outdated. This can lead to link unavailability, path disruption, frequent user-terminal handovers, and feeder-link outages between satellites and ground gateways, potentially disconnecting the NTN from terrestrial 5G infrastructure. To study these issues, this paper develops a large-scale LEO satellite network simulation tool based on realistic satellite trajectory data. The simulator models satellite topology and link characteristics under configurable constellation and ground-network connectivity scenarios. Using this tool, we can analyze the evolution of the connectivity graph and the availability and utilization of user access links (also refered to service links), feeder links, and inter-satellite links (ISLs), providing deep insights into E2E connectivity and service continuity in integrated 5G TN/NTN systems. |
