Handshake is a blockchain-based name resolution system aimed at decentralized management of TLDs. When this system is used alongside conventional DNS in a traditional name resolution network, cache poisoning attacks become possible because the same communication protocol as conventional name resolution is used. Existing defense methods against this attack rely on a centralized trust anchor, but applying them to Handshake is not appropriate due to the decentralized nature of blockchain. Therefore, this study proposes a defense method against cache poisoning attacks that uses blockchain's Difficulty as a computational trust anchor. We evaluated the proposed method against three attack scenarios and confirmed that the attack could be prevented in all scenarios. |
