Neural Activity of Individual Differences in Emotional Responses to Spectral Equalization During Music Listening: -- An EEG Study --

(in English) Spectral equalization is an important factor influencing preferences during music listening. Although individual differences exist in preferences for spectral equalization, their underlying neural mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we investigated responses to musical stimuli across six different EQ conditions using electroencephalography (EEG) and emotional evaluations. The results revealed differences in brain activity among the EQ conditions in a cluster near the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC). In the emotional evaluations, while no significant differences were observed in valence, significant differences were found in arousal. Furthermore, EEG activity within this cluster demonstrated a relatively stronger association with arousal than with valence. These findings suggest that the region near the ACC is involved in arousal responses associated with changes in spectral equalization, and that individual differences may influence valence responses.
