In the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS), the random assignment of Kademlia node IDs decouples the logical overlay from the physical underlay, resulting in high query latency. Although recent topology-aware frameworks utilize space-filling curves and proximity-aware K-Bucket update policies to preserve physical locality in routing tables, the default Kademlia routing algorithm fails to fully exploit this localized structure. Building upon the recursive routing concept and its synergy with proximity-aware K-Buckets recommended in our previous work, this paper formally designs the algorithmic specifics of the recursive query mechanism for topology-aware IPFS networks. Unlike the original Kademlia protocol, which forces the originating node to iteratively establish long-distance connections, our recursive scheme delegates lookups to intermediate peers, forming a continuous sequence of low-latency physical hops. To prevent exponential message fan-out, we propose a strict concurrency limit (α=1) as part of the detailed algorithmic design. We validate this architecture through high-fidelity ns-3 network simulations, profiling end-to-end Round Trip Time (RTT) latency under concurrent Key-Value (KV) workloads. Experimental results demonstrate that our topology-aware recursive architecture significantly reduces the routing latency for both Node Lookup and KV operations compared to a baseline recursive Kademlia implementation utilizing random ID assignment. |
