| 抄録 | （和） | 情報通信技術，とりわけVR関連技術の発展に伴い，都市から遠く離れた自然を，あたかもその場にいるかのように体験する機会が増えている．しかし，そこで伝達され体験されるのは，《本物の自然》といえるものだろうか．この問いに対しては，伝達される自然の側と，それを体験する人間の側との，双方からのアプローチが必要である．まず，インターネット配信には通信回線や電源などのインフラが必要であり，伝達される自然は人間による開発や管理の影響を受けた環境に偏りやすい．また，人為の影響がほとんどない自然を伝達できたとしても，映像や音などの情報だけで現地での直接的な自然体験を代替することは容易ではない．東京大学サイバーフォレストでは，こうした制約を踏まえ，できるだけ人為の少ない森林の映像と音をインターネット配信し，さまざまな社会的活動に適用する実践を30年以上にわたり続けてきた．その社会的実践から見えてきた，情報通信による自然の伝達が人々の自然との距離や関係の捉え方を変える可能性を，持続可能な社会の構築において求められる自然認識の変容という観点から考察する． |
| （英） | With the advancement of information and communication technologies, particularly VR technologies, opportunities to experience nature far from urban areas as if one were physically present have increased. Yet can the nature transmitted and experienced through such technologies truly be regarded as “authentic nature”? Addressing this question requires consideration from both the perspective of the natural environments being transmitted and that of the people experiencing them. Internet-based transmission requires infrastructure such as communication networks and power supplies, which tends to limit transmission to natural environments affected by human development and management. Moreover, even when relatively undisturbed nature can be transmitted, audiovisual information alone cannot readily substitute for direct experiences in the field. The University of Tokyo Cyberforest has spent more than 30 years transmitting images and sounds from forests with minimal human intervention over the Internet and applying them in various social contexts. These long-term social practices suggest the potential for communicating nature through information and communication technologies to transform how people recognize and interpret their relationship with and distance from nature, particularly in relation to the transformation of our recognition of nature needed to build a sustainable society. | |
