A 60GHz-band SSB mixer for self-heterodyne transceiver

(in English) We have developed a low cost 60GHz-band transceiver with the SSB self-heterodyne technique which needs no local oscillator in receivers. To realize this technique, we fabricated an image rejection mixer as an SSB mixer in a transmitter which outputs both an LO signal and RF signals spontaneously. It consists of a 30GHz-band Wilkinson divider, a 60GHz-band branch-line coupler, and two 60GHz-band anti-parallel diode pair (APDP) mixers. In order to output an LO signal intentionally, we varied junction areas of two Schottky diodes which were used in the APDP. The junction areas of two diodes are 0.15μm x 12.5μm and 0.15μm x 25.0μm, respectively. A fabricated SSB mixer exhibits an LO output power of -27dBm and a conversion gain of -14.2dB. A rejection ratio of an image signal is more than 20dB in a frequency range from 55GHz to 75GHz. Its size is 1.6mm x 1.1mm.
