A study on acoustic features in singing voices contributing to perception of singer individuality
Takeshi Saitou, Masataka Goto (AIST) SP2008-31
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Relationship between acoustic features in singing voices and perception of singer individuality was investigated through psychoacoustic experiments.
From a singing voice database in which several amateur singers sung four different songs, we selected singing voices that are most similar and dissimilar to the original songs.
Using these similar and dissimilar singing voices, we synthesized several intermediate singing voices by replacing six types of acoustic features (spectral envelope, F0 contour, variation of phoneme duration, spectra in higher region, etc.), and carried out Thurstone's paired comparison method to measure the contribution of acoustic feature replacement to the perception of singer individuality.
The experimental results showed that the spectral envelope and F0 contour dominantly contributed to theperception of singer individuality.
Moreover, perceptual contribution of the variation of phoneme duration and spectra in higher region was confirmed.
