Longitudinal change of speaking rate in Infant-directed speech

(in English) Infant-directed speech (IDS), which is spoken to an infant by a caretaker such as a parent, was investigated in terms of its longitudinal change in a speaking rate using the NTT infant speech database. It was revealed that IDS speaking rate was slow and it gradually became faster when infant's was 0 to about 25-months old, but it was almost constant after about 25-months old. Considering that IDS fundamental frequency gradually becomes lower as a function of infant's age, the results suggest that each characteristic of IDS is present in a different period of infant's age.
