(in English) The present study examined the boundary condition of the costly signaling model of apologies. In particular, a new model, a Bayesian model, predicts that the no cost apology will effectively induce the victim’s forgiveness when the transgressor’s benign intention is transparent and when the benefit from the interaction with the transgressor is sufficiently large. The reported vignette study supported the prediction.
