Heterogeneous network (HetNet), high density small-cell networks combined with macro-cell has been studied for LTE-Advanced to realize high data rate of 50M-1Gbps. To reduce total cost ownership (TCO) of HetNet, the base-stations should be designed as a common platform that supports multi-band or wide-band operations for frequency reallocation and global deployment i.e. any frequencies in any countries. Highly power-efficient transmitters (Txs) are indispensable to reduce electricity cost that is a significant part of TCO. This paper introduces RF circuit technologies for multi-band or wide-band operation with enhanced power-efficiency, i.e. a carrier aggregation Tx and a software defined radio digital Tx. |
