An Identity Management System using Group Signatures with Message-Dependent Opening

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Isshiki et al. (ACM DRM 2006) proposed a privacy-preserving ID management system using group signatures (Isshiki system). The anonymity of group signatures allows the service provider to confirm that the user is a service user without having ID information such as a customer list. Billing for service fees utilizes the tracing capability of group signatures. In the Isshiki system, users can use services while concealing personal information such as hobbies and preferences, and customer lists can be prevented from leaking to subcontractors when subcontracting service provision. On the other hand, anonymity makes it impossible for outsiders to confirm whether services have actually been provided. Existing improved schemes introduce mechanisms to force billing (Fujitani et al. (AsiaJCIS2021)) or introduce publicly verifiable tracing result certificates (Emura-Hayashi (IEICE Trans. 2020)), but there is still the problem that billing is possible regardless of whether the service was provided or not, since service provision and group signature tracing are independent. In this paper, we utilize group signatures with message-dependent opening (GS-MDO) to improve the issues with the Isshiki system. Focusing on the fact that identity-based encryption (IBE) is essential in GS-MDO schemes, and IBE key generation becomes the signature, we introduce a mechanism where billing is only possible after the service provider issues a third-party verifiable service provision certificate. Furthermore, based on the implementation evaluation of the GS-MDO scheme by Ohara et al. (AsiaCCS 2013) (Arai et al. (IEICE Trans. 2021)), we evaluate the efficiency of the proposed system.
