On Positioning and Navigations -- Does the navigation system require user's positiion information itself? --
Takaaki Hasegawa (Saitama Univ.)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This paper describes positioning and navigation from the viewpoint of transport systems for human and things sophisticated by IT (Information Technology). ITS platform, positioning and WYSIWYAS (What You See Is What You Are Suggested) navigation are mentioned, and after explaining the dominant factor of the GPS’s performance degradation in urbane areas, a performance expression with conditions is proposed. Next, an ITS positioning taxonomy is examined. Finally, after discussion of navigation systems operation, and R &b D fields on ITS positioning and communications, it is concluded that navigation systems do not always require users position information itself, and that GBPS (Ground Based Positioning System) / SBPS (Space Based Positioning System) coordination is important.
