A Localization Algorithm using Location Map and Location Information of Mobile Nodes

Location information is significant for future ubiquitous services. However, positionig by satellite ranging (global position systems) requires clear lines of sights, which are sometimes difficult between buildings, in underground cities and so on. On the other hand, it is highly expensive to widely deploy a number of location seeds. In this paper, we present a range-free localization algorithm for positioning mobile terminal users in urban city areas. Our design principle is two-fold. First, each node relies on location information of the neighboring nodes which are also mobile. Secondly, we employ an "obstacle map", which suggests the area of presence of all the nodes. Experimental results from simulations using the maps of actual city sections have shown that by the above two ideas the proposed method could achieve a certain precision of positions. |
