Piezoelectric Vibration Element for Ultrasonic Motor Driving

(in English) Based on the feature of the ultrasonic motor that can work with a low speed and a high torque operations at relatively high driving frequency, an investigation of non-hybrid structure but monolithic piezoelectric ultrasonic motor which can be driven by only one power source has been developed with special interest to the application for a precisely controlled position actuator. Making two modes of the first longitudinal and the second flexural vibrations coincide with the same resonant frequency as well as employing S-shaped electrode with a diagonally symmetry, we have successfully obtained a vibrator with a elliptic orbit which makes it possible to drive the ultrasonic motor. The rotation and linear movement was observed by using the element.
