Development of SOI-Based 7.5μm-Thick 0.15x0.15mm2 RFID Chip

This paper presents a newly developed radio frequency identification (RFID) chip that is ultra-thin (7.5µm) and ultra-small (0.15mm x 0.15mm) and is fabricated with 0.18µm SOI CMOS technology to reduce device cost and increase mechanical stress endurance. The operation carrier frequency is 2.45GHz and the communication distance was 480mm. The chip is thinned precisely by using an SOI buried oxide layer structure as an etch stop. An RFID antenna is connected to the chip by using a double-surface electrode. |
