Study of 1Gbps Optical Wireless Transmission using LEDs with Bandwidth Equalization and M-ASK Modulation Techniques

(in English) We studied the 1Gbps diffusing optical wireless transmission scheme using LEDs to balance the high speed and the cost-effectiveness as the next generation high-speed wireless transmission technology. To achieve high speed modulation for commercially available LEDs with the bandwidth of about 50MHz, by equalizing the bandwidth and optimizing the modulation current amplitude, we demonstrated the 500Mbps modulation under the low bias drive condition, and 1Gbps modulation was achieved by introducing the Multi-Amplitude Shift Keying (M-ASK) modulation technique. To extend the transmission distance, we studied the modulation circuit of plural LEDs, and clarified the series connection number in order to ensure the required modulation bandwidth. Based on the result of the above-mentioned study, we developed the optical transmitter and the optical receiver, and the error free characteristics (BER<10^-12) was demonstrated in the transmission distance of 50cm.
