(in English) A Technique for Simple Detection of Drug-Induced Long QT Syndrome

Abstract: Non-antiarrhythmic drugs such as antiallergic and antibacterial agents may delay ventricular repolarization, resulting in development of adverse events. The action of such drugs is characterized by a prolonged QT interval on a body surface electrocardiogram (ECG), and these drugs may subsequently induce ventricular arrhythmia (torsades de pointes, TdP), followed by fainting and sudden death. This study was performed to examine a method for simple detection of drug-induced prolonged QT interval by consecutive wavelet analysis in the electrocardiogram of healthy volunteers who were administered a drug that may induce a prolonged QT interval. The results of the study showed that a prolonged QT interval could be detected with time, and that the prolonged QT interval recovered during the measurement period due to homeostasis maintained by autonomic nervous system activity via the chemoreceptor reflex. These results suggest that a drug-induced prolonged QT interval may be inappropriately evaluated when the QT interval is measured at certain intervals.
