Improvement of Band-Loss in Low-Delay Burst Transmission Scheme Confirming Availability at Transit Nodes

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We have proposed a low-delay burst transmission scheme whose purpose is to restrain burst-transmission delay under heavy traffic loads in OBS networks. The proposed scheme can use available time periods for the burst transmission which are thrown away in conventional dynamic two-way (DTW) scheme because the control packet searches the whole reservation table at each transit node in the proposed scheme. Thus, the proposed scheme effectively suppresses the growth of the burst-transmission delay in comparison with conventional schemes. However, in the proposed scheme, we have to consider a different problem which is increase of band-loss caused by the tentative reservation. In this paper, we investigate the band-loss and propose two improved schemes so as to reduce the amount of band-loss. One of them is early release (ER) scheme which can reduce the duration time of band-loss. Another is limited reference (LR) scheme which can reduce the size of band-loss. From the result of simulation, it was found that the amount of band-loss caused by the tentative reservation in the proposed scheme becomes larger than that caused by the frequency of burst retransmission in conventional one-way scheme under light traffic loads. However, it was also confirmed that the combination of ER and LR scheme can effectively reduce the amount of band-loss while maintaining high restrictive effect of burst-transmission delay.
