Prediction of fault prone source code modules using text classifier

(in English) For the improvement of the quality of product, it is important to detect fault-prone modules in source code at an early stage of development. Much research on identifying fault-prone modules has been done, and most of their approaches are based on software metrics. However, collecting software metrics usually requires additional efforts and time. We thus propose a new prediction approach of fault-prone modules using text classifiers. We try to apply text classification technique to the fault-prone detection considering modules in source code as text files. Since we apply source code to the text classifier directly in our approach, we do not measure any metrics. This reduces the time for application of our approach. In order to show the usefulness of our approach, we conducted an experiment using fault-prone and not-fault-prone modules collected from source code repository of a Java based open source development. The result of experiment shows that our approach can predict more than 70% of software modules correctly.
