Evaluation of Header Length in Self-Routed Optical Packet Switching Network

(in English) In this paper, we evaluate the influence of header lengths to bandwidth utilization of several mechanisms in self-routed optical packet switching networks.
Self-routing removes difficulty of destination lookup required for packet forwarding.
However, header length of packets in the network can be large when the network topology is arbitrary.
This results in the reduction of bandwidth utilization.
We evaluate the header lengths in the mechanisms by simulations in relationship to the number of nodes, the number of hops, and device performance.
Simulation result shows that optical packet switching network applying our proposed preamble delaying label update mechanism keeps the header length shorter in large scale networks than other mechanisms.
