N719 dye adsorption on TiO2 surfaces investigated by infrared absorption spectroscopy

(in English) N719 dye adsorption ((Bu4N)2-[Ru(dcbpyH)2(NCS)2] complex ) on anatase TiO2 surfaces have been investigated to achieve high-density dye adsorption. By using an IR absorption measurement with a multiple internal reflection, we have found the N719 dye dissociatively adsorbs to the TiO2 surfaces with its COOTBA on surface OH sites and TBA (tetrabutylammonium) fragments dissociated from COOTBA is adsorbed on other sites on TiO2. The generation of OH sites by a UV irradiation on TiO2 surfaces prior to the N719 dye-adsorption is effective to increase short circuit current of the dye-sensitized solar cells.
