Pinning effect of cholesteric blue phases at polymer network surface

(in English) We proposed the stabilization of the blue phases (BPs) by using pinning effect at surfaces of polymer network (PN). We prepared the composite composed of BP liquid crystals and an UV-curable monomer, and exposed to UV light at room temperature to induce phase separation between the BP liquid crystal and PN. The three-dimensional PN in which the averaged size of vacant spaces was about 5 mm was formed, and temperature range of BPs was expanded. The influence of an electric field on the phase transition temperature was also investigated.
