Skymesh is emergency communication system to be deployed during disaster recovery and establishes a mesh network by using multiple balloons with wireless devices. Some experimental researches revealed that Skymesh is a feasible technology to be used in disaster areas. Skymesh has many challenging research and development issues such as downsizing of the communication equipment and balloon, achieving stable communication quality, etc. Assuming urban disaster we evaluate benefits and requirements of Skymesh by a simulation with pedestrian mobility model. It is shown that this methodology is useful to evaluate the benefits of Skymesh supporting victims to obtain information to evacuate in shorter times during a disaster as well as the requirements of Skymesh in terms of communication capacity and the number of balloon to be deployed in the disaster area. |
