An acoustic sensing that can be used in air has the potential to allow for a fast and accurate characterization of objects. Nevertheless, it is difficult to identify acoustic signals from small objects clearly because of environmental noises, sound attenuation and scattering on the object surface. In this paper, we present the performance of object detection using the M-sequence signal in an indoor environment. By using M-sequence signal, it was able to improve SN ratio and to measure the reflected waves from small objects that can not be detected by using a conventional impulse. When the noise component is getting low with higher order M-sequence, the reverberation component is relatively increased which limits the detection performance. In the reverberation limited case, after eliminating the reverberation component we estimated the target strength of metal cylinders as a function of radium of the cylinder. |
