We propose a new Broadband Vehicle Information and Communication System (B-VICS) using free-space optics technology. In the proposed system, a cylindrical concave lens and a variable numerical aperture lens shaped the incoming beam from optical transmitter (Laser Diode : LD) to form a wide-range fan-shaped beam. Moreover, this transmitter which includes LD is installed on the height of conventional VICS transmitter which includes infrared LED (Light Emitting Diode : LED). Therefore, Compared with conventional VICS beacon, bulk receivable information quantity can be expected because LD which realized high-speed communication is used as a new VICS beacon. In this paper, we evaluate the system performance of B-VICS by numerical analysis. As a result, we confirm that a stable service area can be obtained when vertical displacement occurs. Moreover, we verify that receivable information quantity of B-VICS is about 45 times as much as that of conventional VICS when transmission rate is 100Mbps. Therefore, we can say that the proposed system is effective at a viewpoint of sending bulk information data for vehicular roads. |
