Estimation of position of the pleural cavity by using rigid registration of 3D CT image for computer aided thoracoscopic surgery

(in English) Since accuracy of rigid registration affects overall accuracy of the thoracoscopic surgical navigation system, and thus accurate registration is required. However, rigid registration by ICP algorithm using body surface, which is commonly performed, is not suitable due to deformation of the body surface. Therefore, we have developed a dedicated rigid registration procedure for the navigation system. The dedicated procedure is based on ICP algorithm, and employs the median line and the pleural cavity surface. Effectiveness of this procedure had not been clarified, and thus we performed experiments and compared the dedicated procedure with the conventional procedure using body surface. The condition using sampling points from both the skin surface and the pleural cavity resulted in the smallest error.
