Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In channel coding, Feldman showed that linear programming can be used instead of the sum-product algorithm in the decoding of LDPC codes. In this paper, it is shown that linear programming can alse be applied to lossless and lossy source coding with LDPC codes. The linear programming often outputs a pseudo-codeword, which includes a non-integer symbol. So, an auxiliary algorithm is proposed to derive a suboptimal codeword from such a pseudo-codeword. The performance is evaluated by simulation and it is shown that our scheme can be attained better performance than the time sharing bound of the rate distortion function.
