Deliberation on Accuracy and Computaional Effort on DOA Estimation with Propagator Method

(in English) Propagator method is known as a fast DOA estimation algorithm because it does not require eigenvalue
decomposition and angle scanning. In this paper, we compared Propagator method with Beamformer, Root-MUSIC
and TLS-ESPRIT. The superiority of Propagator method is verified with its accuracy and computational effort.
The estimation accuracy is evaluated by using both the experiment result in radio anechoic chamber and simulation
result. The computational effort is evaluated by comparing of number of multiplications from received signal to
deriving the result of DOA estimation. When the estimation accuracy is almost equal, in both simulation and
experiment, the number of multiplications that Propagator method requires is tens of percent for other algorithms.
We show that Propagator method is a fast algorithm in the case of desired estimation accuracy.
