| 抄録 | （和） | Coppieters (1987) claimed that L2 learners cannot master the semantics associated with imperfective forms to native-like levels. We provide experimental evidence that advanced Chinese learners of Japanese have difficulty in the interpretation of past imperfectives but argue that the difficulty is not due to semantics alone. Rather, in the sprit of Van Hout’s (in press) proposal for L1 acquisition, we argue that whether or not L2 learners have difficulty with the semantics of past imperfective forms is influenced to a great extent by the morphological properties of the form in which the meaning is encoded. |
