(in English) In this paper, we present a noble electric wheelchair equipped with a stereo camera and a near-infrared pattern projector. The stereo camera system can acquire high-accuracy range data even though the target object doesn’t have any texture. The wheelchair recognizes nearby obstacles by using the range data, and applies brakes automatically before it collides with the obstacles. Since near-infrared light is invisible, the wheelchair can detect obstacles without barring a user’s field of view.
